Bears & Butterflies

Cairo's Bears & Butterflies and the Hometown History Quest is a fun and interactive public arts project sponsored by the chamber. Thirty six local artists have created 52 unique and interesting fiberglass bears. From Memorial Day to Columbus Day these bears will be displayed along Main Street and throughout the hamlets at restaurants, businesses, and Inns. In addition to the great detail and design of these bears, they also hold an interactive component. Each artist has hidden a small butterfly or butterflies somewhere on the bear.  As you and your family are enjoying the project you can also search for the butterflies. One butterfly on each bear will contain a clue that corresponds to our Hometown History Quest-ions about the early history of Cairo. As a Quest Explorer, you are faced with the exciting challenge of searching for clues, answering  questions, and  submitting the correct responses to become eligible to win great prizes!! The entire project will culminate at our Bear A ‘Fair’ Gala and Auction in October where our bodacious bruins will go on the auction block.   Proceeds from this exciting event will go to benefit local charities and to promote future chamber projects. More information will be available at the project site. To read about our kick off event for 2010 go here.
