GRRRRRReat things are happening in Cairo.
The Bears are coming to Town for a cele‘bear’tion accompanied by their small butterfly companions!!
Cairo is SPREADING ITS WINGS IN 2009!! Exciting projects are underway and the Bears will be coming out of hibernation and shuffling into Town. Imagine big, bold, beautiful, bodacious BEARS taking up residence on Main Street and throughout the hamlets for the summer of 2009. The “Cairo’s Bears and Butterflies” Committee has come up with the idea of making this wonderful public arts project even more fun by creating several interactive components. First, we are asking all artists to paint a small butterfly somewhere on their bear. Then, as people are enjoying the project they can also search for the butterfly. It’s Cairo’s version of “Where’s Waldo”!! Where’s the Butterfly!! Additionally, in an effort to tie our project in with the 400 year celebration of the discovery of the Hudson River, we are creating an EXPLORER’S MAP which will be for sale throughout the Township. Each Bear will be located on the map and as participants visit each cub, they will also collect clues that will help them answer questions about Henry Hudson. By coming up with the correct answers, they will automatically qualify for a chance to win a GRAND PRIZE. In order to spread the word and create excitement about our Cele‘bear’tion, there will be promotions and special events throughout the season. Patrons who sponsor the bears and the artists who decorate them will be promoted in print, on the web, at events, and in the streets!!
So, don’t “paws” for a moment!! Make plans to host a decorated fiberglass bear at your place of business or along Main Street by “adopting” one of Cairo’s Cubs. The Bears will be available for as little as $550 and will be decorated by a juried artist who will be selected by the sponsor and financed by the “Cairo’s Bears and Butterflies” Committee. Bears will be on display all summer throughout the Town and will be auctioned in October at the Bear A “Fair” Gala and Auction at the Apple Harvest Festival in the Angelo Canna Park.

Our goal is to have at least 30 Bears featured throughout the Town and Village of Cairo from Memorial Day to Columbus Day of 2009.
Be sure to sign up for your Bear before the cubs are all adopted!!
This is a COMMUNITY WIDE PUBLIC ART event and we encourage participation by all businesses, organizations and individuals.
